A timely revival of Barrie Keeffe’s multi award winning play set on election night 1979 and still very relevant today (see the trailer to find out why - click the 'Watch a video clip' button above right).
Two detectives on the graveyard shift place odds on the outcome of the election as a black man is brought into the station, picked up under the new ‘SUS’ laws that made it legal for police to stop and search anyone – purely on suspicion. Accused of the murder of his wife, his treatment by the cops makes it clear as much as anything else his race marks him as guilty.
Sus will be performed 'in the round' (ie with the performance space set in the middle of the audience). This will make for a very intense dramatic experience - edge of the seat stuff where you almost feel you are in the interogation room too. And afterwards you will have the opportunity to discuss the play and the issues it raises with a Chatback panel chaired by our Artistic Director, Karena Johnson.
